Pratap Partnership are working exclusively with The Skills Network to source and select an accomplished Financial Controller to join their successful business.  

The Skills Network is one of the most successful providers of online learning solutions in the UK.  A privately owned SME business whose mission is to combine innovative technology and outstanding customer service to help enrich lives through learning and inspire and nurture this ethos worldwide. Due to the continued growth of the business, they are recruiting a high Calibre FC.  Whilst the business is based in Selby, the suitable applicant could have the option of a flexible hybrid working pattern to suit their needs.

The Financial Controller will take primary responsibility for all aspects of financial and management reporting within the Finance Function, as well as planning and forecasting, cash flow and liquidity, risk management, policies and controls. This is a key role within the business, providing information to the executive team and senior management colleagues to enable strategic decisions. The position will be expected to support the delivery of targets and the growth plans of the business, whilst implementing and improving processes and controls to ensure effective risk management, as well as supporting and developing the existing Finance team.

 Key responsibilities will include:

 Ownership of monthly management accounts for reporting to the Executive Team and Board, comprising P&L, Balance Sheet, Cashflow and KPIs. Ensure timely and accurate reporting of business performance together with insightful analysis, including variances to budget, forecast, prior year etc.

  • Ownership of Planning & Forecasting financial modelling process, ensuring accuracy of the primary profit & loss, balance sheet and cash flow forecasts and underlying calculations.
  • Valued Business Partner to stakeholders across the business through planning and reporting  - providing support and challenge in the delivery of budgets and KPIs.
  • Liquidity management – maintenance of rolling 12 week cashflow forecast and longer term outlook, effective management of all banking relationships and accounts.
  • Develop and enhance financial control environment, including embedding the internal controls framework, and ownership of key supporting policy documents. In particular, ownership of revenue recognition policy documents that accurately reflect the diverse and complex revenue streams of the business.
  • Drive continuous improvement of processes and behaviours, in the finance team and across the business.
  • Provide Finance subject matter expertise for projects and initiatives, combining sound technical knowledge with commercial acumen.
  • Management of the year end audit process, to deliver an on-time and efficient audit.
  • Ownership of all aspects of Corporation Tax and VAT, as well as Payroll, with support from external advisors where appropriate.
  • Line management of Finance Manager, and leadership and development of overall team of 6 staff.
  • Establish yourself as a deputy to the Finance Director, providing sound advice and challenge and being seen as a “go-to” person within Finance.

The suitable applicant will be a Qualified Accountant, CIMA, ACCA or ACA with at least 5 years post qualified experience. Exposure to working within the technology or service sector is preferred but not essential. Equally important will be your general attitude and approach to the role. We are looking for an individual who demonstrates real passion for the business and the role, can manage conflicting demands and work collaboratively with colleagues in the finance team and stakeholders across the wider business and beyond.
