Financial Controller sought for this very successful SME business, conveniently located on the outskirts of Leeds, in the Drighlington area (easily accessed from Leeds/Bradford/Wakefield/Huddersfield/Halifax due to it's proximity to the M62/M621). This profitable and growing business are looking to appoint a proven finance professional to lead their finance team.

Reporting directly to the board of Directors the role supports the UK leadership team and is a significant and senior role, managing and reporting on all financial and accounting activities of the UK entity and interfacing with colleagues in financial teams in SE Asia and the USA. This role will focus on the continuing development of robust IT systems, processes and procedures; treasury management; forecasting and budgetary control; and the delivery of timely financial and management information in support of the leadership team.

Key objectives will include ensuring 

  • the UK financial affairs are run efficiently; operate in line with current best practice accounting policies and procedures and comply with all regulatory, statutory and tax requirements
  • he quality of financial and management reporting is in line with current best practice
  • variances to standards employed or agreed budgets (and any abnormal costs) are brought to the attention of the Board and operational managers in a timely manner, and that corrective actions are identified and implemented
  • all assets, including software and databases, are properly recorded, evaluated, insured and protected against theft, destruction, damages, loss, devaluation, depreciation, etc.

Key tasks will involve: 

Financial management:

  • Provide timely, commercially focused management information and analysis which supports the UK leadership team in their decision making
  • Assume immediate day to day responsibility for  financial systems and controls, working capital, cash and debt management and the completion and review of all VAT, Intrastat, PAYE, and other statutory returns
  • Manage banking relationships and ensure cash and bank reporting requirements are fully satisfied
  • Ensure adequate systems are in place to monitor cost and highlight exceptional items
  • Maintain appropriate relationships with the Group’s external auditors, insurers, other external advisors and government agencies in order to meet all statutory obligations

Management reporting: 

  • Prepare detailed and robust weekly management dashboards; monthly management accounts; annual budgets; rolling cash-flow forecasts; and other ad hoc reports as agreed with the General Manager to established reporting deadlines
  • Provide a comprehensive monthly board pack and ad hoc financial information to the Board on a timely and accurate basis
  • Prepare an annual accounts file for auditors and draft statutory accounts for all group companies. Act as the first point of contact for the auditors, and communicate with them to ensure all questions can be and are answered efficiently
  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of any other reports which may reasonably be expected to be produced by the Finance Department e.g., miscellaneous government statistics etc.

Treasury Management:

  • Monitor forward exchange and interest rates and manage the UK entity and the group’s risk and exposures
  • Maximise the return on daily, weekly and monthly bank and cash balances

People Management: 

  • Lead, motivate and develop a small UK finance team
  • Build effective working relationships, with the leadership team, and operational manager
  • Foster staff awareness of the need for strong financial and cost management

IT: 

  • Develop, implement and manage such systems, procedures and controls necessary to ensure the integrity of accounting information and safe custody of all assets
  • Support the implementation and customisation of the new JobPro ERP system together with the development of an IT infrastructure which will enhance the future growth of the business
