Head of Finance job based in the York area: 12-15 month fixed term contract

 

Main purpose & scope of role:

This role is responsible for leading the Management Accounts and Finance Systems teams. The main objectives of this role are:

·Oversee the preparation of timely and accurate monthly management accounts and annual statutory accounts

·A key focus on finance systems, project management and delivery

 

Accountable for the management and delivery of:

People

  • Lead, coach and develop the team (6 colleagues, 3 direct reports)
  • Ensure the finance team has the right people and robust resource planning is in place to support business objectives

Financial Reporting

Monthly Reporting

  • Ensure the team deliver accurate P&L, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow each month in line with agreed group reporting deadlines
  • Management and communication of financial risks & opportunities register
  • Review monthly results and provide insightful narrative
  • Drive forward changes to reporting, processes and systems required for integration with new parent company.

 

Statutory Accounts

  • Deliver timely and accurate statutory accounts including disclosures and corporation tax for three legal entities
  • Manage year-end external audit process

 

Systems & Projects

  • Accountable for all Finance systems

Lead strategic Finance projects, which could include but is not limited to;

  • Full assessment of the current finance ledger system (Coda) capabilities. Scoping, planning and delivery of migration/integration to parent company system
  • Review of key finance processes and re-engineering to deliver efficiencies and release capacity within the team

Measures of Success:

  • Accurate and insightful reporting completed in line with group reporting deadlines
  • Delivery of key finance system projects
  • Close collaboration with IT and transactional finance teams
  • Drive a high-performance culture of continuous improvement, simplification and automation across whole finance team
  • Maintenance of strong control environment and robust balance sheet
  • Manage expectations of wide range of stakeholders

Experience and Qualifications

  • Good communication, collaboration, as well as interpersonal and influencing skills at all levels of the organisation
  • Experience of systems implementation and development
  • Experience of people management
  • Broad business understanding and commercial focus
  • Resilient and credible
  • Comfortable managing a diverse workload and priorities
  • Able to tailor financial communications to the appropriate audience
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Ability to develop strategic plans and influence the wider business
  • Qualified Accountant (ACCA/CIMA/ACA) with post qualification experience
  • Robust knowledge of accounting standards, financial compliance and focus on financial control and stewardship
