Pratap Partnership are delighted to be working exclusively with Pinelog a longstanding family-owned business based in the North Derbyshire area. Pinelog is about to embark on the exciting next chapter of the businesses evolution in which it will be based in brand new premises that are far better suited to manufacturing Pinelog’s products. The business is looking to appoint an Operations Director to lead and manage an increase in the number of external lodge sales. This is an exciting role with a clear route to become Managing Director.

The business is a highly respected manufacturer of premium quality timber lodges that are inherently robust and practical, to meet the requirements of holiday parks and lodge owners. The passion and enthusiasm for what they do is clear throughout the company.

About the Role

This is a new role within the business reporting directly to the group chairman working with the Senior Management team including the Production Director, Design Director and Finance Director.

 As operations director you will:

  • Introduce new technologies, approaches and processes that will contribute to reducing the unit cost of producing Pinelog’s products.  
  • Lead the development in the design of Pinelog’s products so that they are at the forefront of products in the market sector. 
  • Consider and implement suitable new revenue streams and markets whilst promoting the existing “installed buildings” revenue stream and maintaining the long-standing relationships that have been developed with Trade Distributors.
  • Introduce capable new talent into the business in order to address the significant present risk that the business is now exposed to given the age of its senior management team.  

Main responsibilities include:

  • In conjunction with the Group Chairman set the corporate strategy in the areas of marketing, sales, production, purchase, distribution and supply chain to ensure that the company achieves its short and long-term objectives.
  • Direct and oversee staff to ensure that they are motivated and trained to carry out their responsibilities to the required standard.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure that core operational functions achieve their business objectives.
  • Develop and control operational budgets to promote profitability and ensure the company has all the resources required to meet its objectives within agreed financial parameters.
  • Work with the Production Director to control production so to ensure that finished goods are of the required standard and are available to customers within agreed costs and at the right times.
  • Oversee purchasing to ensure that the company has the goods and services required for production purposes within agreed costs and quality standards and at the right times.
  • Direct and control supply chain operations.
  • Develop all necessary policies and procedures to ensure safe and healthy working environments across all company locations.
  • Maintain working relationships with all group directors to ensure effective co-ordination of all company activities in support of corporate objectives.
  • Evaluate overall company performance by gathering, analysing and interpreting data and metrics.
  • Act as the company’s main adviser on all issues relating to operational functions and keep abreast of latest developments to ensure that the company maintains its competitive position.

Key requirements

  • Relevant degree level qualification (preferable)
  • Proven competence and experience of working in a senior operational role at a manufacturing business.
  • Experience of modern, efficient manufacturing approaches, processes, and technologies.
  • Experience of working at another lodge or static caravan manufacturer would be welcome but not essential.  
  • A familiarity and interest in basic interior design would be helpful even in the context of their own home.
  • A basic knowledge of construction would be helpful even at a DIY level in the context of their home .
  • The job holder will need to be a proven, effective leader that is enthusiastic, persuasive, self-motivated, self-reliant and willing to travel when the business requires it.
