The Job:

The primary function of the role is to ensure that the correct materials (prime, scrap and processed materials) are purchased in line with the company production schedule at the right quality, specification and at the best value to deliver forecasted margins.

Duties and responsibilities to include:

  • Liaising with the Planning and Production team to review the production schedule to inform the Raw Materials purchasing strategy & requirement
  • Working closely with the Raw Materials Manager to ascertain current stock levels
  • Building and developing strong supplier relationships to minimise supply chain risk
  • Playing an active part in identifying opportunities to expand the supply chain by introducing high-quality suppliers/products
  • Collating and monitoring supplier data to ensure performance levels are in line with company targets
  • Carrying out supplier visits/audits to ensure they are meeting the company's ongoing compliance requirements
  • Challenge, enhance and standardise existing procurement practices to further develop the team.
  • Supporting the Head of Procurement and Finance team on departmental forecasts where procurement has an explicit impact (Raw Material Refractory & Production consumable spend)
  • Other ad hoc duties as required

The person:

  • CIPS qualification or a willingness to work towards one is required
  • The successful candidate will be driven, self-motivated, highly organised, with a logical and ethical approach to problem-solving
  • You will have a proven background in purchasing or supplier management (3-5 years), ideally within aerospace, precision engineering, or other regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft packages is essential
  • You will be able to demonstrate solid negotiation skills focused on total cost, lead-time stability, and contract compliance — not just price
  • An understanding of profitability and the commercial implications of procurement deliverables is required
  • A strong awareness of traceability, material certs, and documentation requirements is essential
  • Experience conducting supplier audits or participating in them
  • Ability to identify risks in a process chain and drive corrective actions with suppliers.
