The role of the Senior Project Manager is to ensure all assigned projects are properly planned, budgeted, organised, directed, monitored and controlled to safely meet customer requirements and agreed timescales and company financial objectives

  • Be the prime customer point of contact manage relationships with all stakeholders
  • Provide leadership for the cross functional team (Sales, Technical, Quality, Production) with accountabilities for successful delivery of the customer project
  • External supply chain management to ensure externally sourced parts and services are delivered on time and to cost and quality requirements
  • Maintain a close working relationship with key customer stakeholders to identify project requirements and critical delivery dates and plans
  • Represent the Company at external customer meetings and facilitate customer communications to resolve issues and develop shared plans and objectives
  • Ensure a regular cycle of project review governance meetings to meet the requirements of external customers at all levels
  • Manage all assigned project activity through a multi-functional project team to could include technical, quality, operations, planning, finance, and purchasing
  • Lead the pre-contract internal review process to ensure potential issues are raised early and mitigation actions put in place
  • Manage project budgets and plans to deliver OTIF and to budget
  • Manage issues and risks proactively to minimise any adverse impact on the project schedule or cost
  • Ensure actions are decisions are in place to deliver projects to customer requirements
  • Establish effective change control processes to manage customers’ needs as the project evolves and maintain effective budget and margin control
  • Work closely with the production planning and operational teams to ensure customer priorities are reflected in the various project schedules, resource and equipment plans
  • Ensure project governance is in place to resolve operational issues and progress outstanding actions
  • Provide input to the appropriate Sales Manager for quotation letters and pre-contract activities to ensure they reflect customer priorities and previous learning

To be considered for this role you must be able to demonstrate:

  • Proven track record for planning, executing, controlling and closing projects and the ability to manage multiple large complex projects simultaneously
  • Extensive knowledge of project / programme management principles, tools and techniques ideally in a heavy engineering / manufacturing industry 
  • Excellent problem structuring and solving skills
  • Excellent commercial acumen and the ability to take decisions on difficult and ambiguous issues
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • An appreciation of QA, inspections, testing and documentation requirements
  • Highly proficient IT skills in Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and MS Project
  • Successful track record of leading and delivering large scale complex technical projects/programmes
  • Previously responsible for budgets, involved in budget setting and a good working knowledge of financial processes.
  • Previous experience of building relationships with customers and suppliers and sustaining these relationships through difficult contract performance reviews and negotiations
  • Experience of managing to KPIs and establishing project control mechanisms
